It looks like AT&T and HTC may finally be getting ready to update all those users of the original HTC One M7 starting tomorrow. A little over a week ago it was mentioned that HTC and AT&T would likely be starting to push out the updates to the newest Android software for HTC One M7 owners at the end of March, and today Mo Versi confirmed that statement by taking to Twitter to announce that HTC has “received technical approval on Lollipop OS,” and that the OTA will start tomorrow. That’s good news for HTC One M7 owners on the AT&T network, who can finally join the ranks of the latest Android software version.
Unfortunately, those on AT&T who are using the HTC One M8 may still be stuck on Android Kit Kat as Android Lollipop has still yet to hit that model of the device, while HTC One M8 owners on other networks have been rolling with Lollipop for at least a month. AT&T has been quick about the Lollipop software updates for certain phones while they’ve obviously been a little slower on others, and if Lollipop hits the One M7 tomorrow but not the One M8 this would be a perfect example of that. It’s also worth noting that when it comes to software rollouts, the carrier has more to do with it being held back from specific devices than the manufacturer usually.
While the software rollout will officially start tomorrow, it’s still possible it may show up for some users starting today, so if you’re feeling like you have an itchy trigger finger, you can always head into the settings menu and navigate to the about phone section, then check for the update to Lollipop manually. Those who are using the AT&T HTC One M7 should be expecting Android 5.0 and not Android 5.1, as HTC had previously mentioned that Android 5.0 Lollipop would be the last software update to hit those devices. However, back on March 20th Mo Versi also tweeted a somewhat cryptic message that stated HTC has heard the concerns in regards to the M7 and Android Lollipop 5.1 and that users should “stay tuned,” so there may yet be hope that users will get to see 5.1 instead of 5.0 as their last software update. Check your devices tomorrow to see what HTC and AT&T have in store for you.
