Canada's Nexus 6 Rollout of Android 5.1 Lollipop is Complete

The Nexus 6 was a bold move for Google and one of the most exciting smartphones released in 2014.  Once the sticker shock wore off, it was well received and elevated the Nexus smartphone to a true flagship device.  As great a device as it was, it was not without its faults and the software – Android 5.0 Lollipop, caused most of those issues.  Android 5.0 was a significant upgrade over KitKat and there are always problems that arise in new software as complicated as an operating system.  We are happy to report that Motorola has informed our source that the Android 5.1 Lollipop update is complete in Canada – for all Nexus devices, like the Nexus 5, 7, 9 and 10.  The update started in early March and has taken quite a while to roll out, so we are glad that all Nexus devices should have received the latest 5.1 Lollipop.

The new Android 5.1 update fixes quite a few of the problems and adds a few new features – increased voice quality thanks to HD Voice support, but just remember that your device must support HD Voice in order for it to work and fortunately the Nexus 6 does support this feature.  Device Protection is another new feature as Google pushes for protection for your personal data.  If your device is stolen, Device Protection will lock-down the device without the lock code or password and turn your smartphone into a dumb paperweight.  It will continue protection even if they try using fastboot or other developer tools of the trade.  The 5.1 update also added dual SIM support for use in a device that has dual SIM capabilities – many of the devices in Europe and Asia offer this feature for traveling from country to country.

One of the main fixes was for the quad-core Qualcomm processor that increased stability and performance, as well as fixing the memory leak causing the device to slow down after a while.  All of these many fixes should also increase in battery life.  Google also tweaked with the Wi-Fi and Bluetooth areas in quick settings making it quicker to hook up with devices and networks.  The Android 5.1 Lollipop update should give users a better overall experience and make the new Nexus 6 even more enjoyable as a flagship device.
