Bezels are on their way. Smartphones have been growing in doth display size and footprint over the last few years, with some phones breaking the bottom bracket of 7-inch tablets, like the Samsung Galaxy W from last year as well as Asus’ Fonepad 7 (2015), with the physical limits between the display and the edge of the phone itself have been shrinking slowly but surely. We saw Sharp unveil the Aquos Crystal last year, with its unique ‘bezel-less’ display, but a massive bottom border to house all the normal front-facing sensors. Now, we might have another de-bezeled phone coming out of China from LeTV. And yes, this leak contains a cute Disney character as well.
Everyone, I’d like you to meet the LeTV X600. We’ve covered how this device will be one of the first to feature the new USB type-C port a bit ago. And we covered a couple leaked shots and TENAA listing starring this phone some days ago, and this time we get to see the display in action, because how much or little non-display along the sides is all fine and dandy, but the difference with the display on, showing an image, is better by a lot. So, this device is interesting for a number of reasons right now. First, it’s great to see innovation, design, and style being pushed to their limits, regardless of where and why. Second, it’s cool to see what smartphone display technology is capable of. And third, it’s interesting to see the first leak from some days ago calling this one featuring Baymax a fake. We’ll cover that near the end, but let’s focus on the X600 for the moment.
This bezel-less phone is supposed to feature a spacious 5.5-inch 1080p full HD display, as well as MediaTek 6795 2.2 Ghz octa-core processor, as well as 2 full gigabytes of RAM and apparently 16 gigabytes of internal storage, with expandability not being known currently, but it’s unlikely. The LeTV X600, as noted in our previous piece, will start at a price of about $160, and hitting the top shelf at around $480. And, as before, we still do not know when this phone will actually go on sale, but it’s going to be an interesting one.
Now, onto the issue of fake-calling. The original leak, from Weibo user Ubuntu Team, showed off the polycarbonate white version’s back and front. Today’s leak shows what could easily be a press render, but was put out by a different user. Also today, Ubuntu Team responded to the primary reason for this piece you’re reading by saying (and pardon the possibly-wrong translation, and if you have some clarification or better one, please let us know):
which translates to “First, the time display is 3.17, and today is 3.20. Second, the shooting of the screen, then the screen should be dark outside, the focus right, third, there is no reflection of the screen next to the finger, the fourth, is not as wide black border around. So, this is one of the diagram.” Ubuntu Team is referring to the date on the phone next to first finger as being not today’s date (3.20, March 20th) as well as a slew of other things apparently wrong with the photo. So, regardless of legitimacy, the LeTV X600 and its essentially-non-existent bezels will hopefully hitting China soon.
