Google isn’t usually one to launch applications or services before they’re ready unless things are stated as being a beta in which they want to test things with live users. That doesn’t seem to be the case with Google’s new Interactive Events application which has just gone live on the play Store earlier this morning, which looks to be aimed at Google employee use only. At the time of writing, Interactive Events is still live on the Play Store and anyone is capable of downloading it, but it does no one any good essentially as there is no way for non-Googlers to scan in events or type in event codes, which is the way you would get event information to appear.
The point of the app seems to be a way to organize and centralize Google events within an interactive app, but it’s listed upon opening the first time that this is a confidential Dogfood version of the app meant for internal Google use only, and the app nor information within should be shared with any non-googlers. The app looks kind of akin to Google’s own I/O developers conference app which is a way for conference attendees to keep all their event info at hand with data on upcoming sessions, talks and other stuff, along with maps to tell you where exactly everything is. We’d imagine things would be similar here for Interactive Events although there is no way to know at this point what all the app will include when the public is actually able to use it.
The app description states that the app can be used by “guests attending events run by Google,” allowing users to connect through social media for event related topics, participate in Q&A sessions, interact with speakers on stage and take notes about important things happening at the event. At this point in time for the app to have any use individuals would have to be at a Google event. When this is no longer a dogfood version of the app though, it’s possible Google could open it up to be used for non-Google events too.
