Verizon Wireless customers that are using the HTC One M8, HTC’s flagship from last year are finally going to be getting their hands on the official Android 5.0 Lollipop software as Verizon has begun sending out the over the air update to users on the device. This may not seem like a big deal to some,(specifically those who don’t use the Verizon model HTC One M8)but there are likely plenty of customers who were looking forward to HTC being on time with their 90 day promise on the software push to Google’s latest version of Android, which has already rolled out to some other OEM devices like the Samsung Galaxy S5 on other networks.
HTC missing it’s 90 day window for the software update though is likely due to HTC attempting to fine tune and make sure the software is at top notch before they roll it out to users, and if this is the case that’s a respectable reason to have the date pushed back as many users would probably rather have a smoother experience than an on time roll out. As the software is heading out today that means users will begin to receive the software update notification via their status bar, but it doesn’t mean that it will reach every single customer at the same time and it could take days before it reaches all users. It’s also recommended that you have plenty of space for the software download and at least 50% battery life.
There are lots of obvious changes coming to the HTC One M8 like the lockscreen notifications, more vibrant use of colors and animations throughout much of the system. Verizon notes that with the HTC One M8, the lollipop notification panel has been adopted, which means users will be able to swipe down on their status bar once to reveal the notification panel, and then a second time to reveal the quick settings menu with all the quick toggles for things like WiFi, Bluetooth, settings, and more. The recent apps screen of course is another big noticeable change coming, where users will now see stacks of cards on top of each other for the recently opened apps instead of a page of thumbnails to scroll through. If you haven’t received the notification for the update just yet, you can always check the settings/about phone menu/software updates and check for the update manually.
