When the HTC One M9 was announced last week in Barcelona, we knew that EE were to be one of the first networks in the UK to carry the device, and now it’s available to pre-order. These days, smartphones aren’t cheap, and they very rarely come with plans you’d call great value for money. As we expected, the One M9 on EE is not going to be cheap, but we need to remember that this is a new phone and there’s a chance that these prices will change when the device goes on sale properly. Having said that, those looking for a new HTC One will have to dig deep in the UK.
Starting with which colors will be available from EE, right now their online shop has gunmetal grey, silver and EE’s exclusive single-tone gold color listed. Each of these comes in at the same prices and they all come with the same specs including 32GB of storage and a microSD card slot as well as 3GB of RAM. As for pricing, EE is asking for a premium with the new HTC One, with prices starting at £19.99 upfront for the device and £41.99 a month for 24 months with just 1GB of data. Many of EE’s tariffs come with unlimited minutes and texts, but very little data for how much you’re paying. 5GB for instance costs you £51.99 a month on a 4GEE tariff for 24 months and £19.99 upfront for the phone. Let’s say you want 10GB of data; that’s £53.49 a month. It’s also worth remembering that EE is one of the few networks that will continue to increase your contract in line with the Retail Price Index every year.
So, clearly this is not an affordable phone. Having said that, it was never meant to be in the first place. This HTC One is powered by the latest Snapdragon 810 and features some very impressive specs for a modern smartphone. These are just EE’s prices, and these could change in the next month or so. As always though, it’s always worth shopping around, so unless you’re desperate to stay with EE (upgrading customers will get a few extras here and there) then it’s worth waiting to see other prices before signing on the dotted line.
