Huawei is a company that many people outside of China likely paid little to no attention to before Mobile World Congress, where they announced and unveiled their Huawei Watch, perhaps the most stylish and traditional-watch-looking Android wear device to date. The Ascend series of smartphones that is made by Huawei is what gave the company its prestigious record for battery life and an interesting set of features, namely a fingerprint sensor on the back. The Mate 7 is a smartphone from that family, and there have been rumors of a possible Mate 7 Mini with a more manageable screen size over the 6 inches of the Ascend Mate 7. Today on Weibo, we got a glimpse of what could be that phone.
Courtesy of user @zyzy168 on Weibo, we got a comparison and a short description of the device that might be the Ascend Mate 7 Mini. the device that is likely to be the Mini is the one on the left, compared to the Ascend G7 on the right, which has a 5.5-inch screen and is just over 6 inches tall. The Mate 7 Mini in the comparison photo shows no Huawei logo on it either, which might mean it’s pre-production. But what @zyzy168 notes is that the phone also features the usual Huawei fingerprint sensor hardware has been implemented into the back of the phone, and the fingerprint sensor will be able to unlock the device. Also noted is the 4.7-inch screen on the front. The Mate 7 Mini looks to an interesting device, especially because we have no release date yet, not even rumored ones, while there is an event scheduled for April 15 to supposedly release the P8 and nothing else.
However, we can be sure of something: the phone on the left is still in development, according to @zyzy168. The Ascend Mate 7 Mini will be a popular device if it contains all of its full-sized sibling’s features and power like the Kirin 925 octa-core processor, the 2 full gigabytes of RAM, and the rather great 1080p HD display. Hopefully, it will keep the fingerprint sensor, and perhaps have moved it elsewhere on the phone, but that is yet to be seen and clarified. Would a smaller, similarly-powerful Ascend Mate 7 Mini appeal to you, and more importantly, to an increasingly competitive market?
