There are lots of different tablets out there to choose from, and many of them claiming to offer up great experiences for productivity, performance, entertainment and more. Enter the Remix, an Ultra-Tablet from Jide Technology which was originally showed off back at CES 2015 in January. The Remix is what Jide is calling a laptop experience in a tablet, with a focus on giving people the power of productivity from a laptop but the portability and ease of use that you can more easily obtain with a tablet. As of now Jide has already started selling the Remix in China, where their company is based, but they’re now looking to localize the Remix and bring the tablet to the U.S., and they’re beginning with Kickstarter.
Kickstarter might seem like an odd place for a company that has already begun selling their product in their local market, but they want to start fresh with the U.S. consumers and bring them into the fold. Bringing the Remix to Kickstarter is part of their vision to attract early adopters and people who will be passionate about the device, who they hope will help them build something as part of a global community of users. The best part about the Kickstarter though is that Jide is offering a Remix tablet to anyone that is willing to back the project no matter what tier they fund. Funding tiers started at just $39, (which are now gone) and yes, even those backers get a Remix, which is going to end up costing $399 at full retail and is slated to ship to backers in May.
The Remix tablet is running on a modified version of Android 4.4.2 Kit Kat called Remix OS, and the tablet features an 11.6-inch Full HD IPS display, with a kickstand that props out from the back when you’re ready to get to work. The kickstand features two different angles as well so you can work however you’re most comfortable. There are front and back 5MP cameras on board for video conferencing, and it also comes with a full-size magnetic keyboard dock complete with a touchpad. Storage wise it houses 64GB of storage space internally with support to expand up to 128GB microSD card as well as OTG support for flash drives, all powered by an Nvidia Tegra 4 processor with 2GB of RAM and an 8,100mAh battery which doubles as a power bank for your other mobile devices. One of the Remix’s most enduring features of course is the multi-window support so you can multitask with more efficiency than you could with most other tablets on the market. The big draw with the Remix is PC level productivity in a small package, with full-on multitasking capabilities, a familiar taskbar down at the bottom of the screen, and a file manager that Jide is referencing as a more familiar PC-like experience. Jide has already reached their funding goal of $100,000 with 28 days left to go, and if you’re in the market for something small, portable and powerful to create content and get your work done on, acting quickly might get you a chance at snagging the Remix for less than full cost.
