Today’s Press Day at Mobile World Congress 2015, and that basically means that those looking to stand apart from the usual mess at Mobile World Congress have been announcing things all day long. As such, we’ve had things come in from the likes of Acer, Huawei and HTC all day long. However, what everyone has been looking forward to is the Galaxy S6, the first major redesign of the Galaxy S line since the Galaxy S III debuted three years ago. This time, Samsung introduced the Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S6 Edge, a variant of the Galaxy S with curved displays around both the left and right-hand edges of the display.
We managed to get our hands on the new devices, once we had pushed passed all the other eager journalists present, and what we found were some of Samsung’s best devices yet. Built from metal and gorilla glass 4, it’s no wonder these feel like the strongest devices Samsung have produced yet. The curve on the Galaxy S6 Edge is really nice, and it’s sort of like the reverse of a curved 4K TV, but at a much more personal level. The overall look and feel here is really nice, and the fit and finish is some of Samsung’s finest.
Moving to a non-removable battery might put off some, but this has enabled Samsung to produce the Galaxy S6 at just 6.8mm thin and the Galaxy S6 Edge at 7.0mm thin. For a device packed with the amount of features and hardware this guy is, both of those figures are impressive. These are packed full of new software features as well, and it looks like Samsung has embraced Android 5.0 Lollipop and the Material Design that comes with it. In person, these are good-looking, well-built smartphones and they’re exactly what Samsung fans have been asking for for years, and now, Samsung has finally given them the premium build, the premium feel and all the software features they’ve come to love from Samsung in an excellent package.
