Everybody loves lollipops, especially when you are talking about the newest Android operating system – we just cannot get enough of them. However, in the whole scheme of things, less than 10-percent of all Android devices are currently using the great new OS. Over-the-Air (OTA) upgrades have been trickling down in Canada. The Samsung Galaxy S5 received their upgrade early this week and the week before, the LG G3, HTC One M7 and Moto G (first generation) got their Lollipop loving and now Rogers has updated their Lollipop updates and it looks like they expect the Moto X 2013 and Moto G LTE models to received their Lollipop in April.
As always, these are always subject to change as it clearly states at the bottom of the list: “Making sure these dates are accurate is our top priority. Sometimes, things change beyond our control so all dates listed are subject to change. Thank you for your understanding.” At least they are polite about it, but they have been pretty much spot-on with their Lollipop announcements. What is lesser known is the version of Lollipop that will be given the user for download – 5.0, 5.0.1 or even 5.0.2 – and the exact version will vary by device. The first-generation Moto G users on Virgin, TELUS, Koodo, Videotron, and WIND received Android 5.0.2 Lollipop arrived last month. Unlocked retail devices have also received the update.
The new 64-bit Lollipop cements the Android operating for the future with a whole new look and increased functionality…not to mention 64-bit capabilities. The benefits of 64-bit will become more apparent as applications are switched over to 64-bit and new ones arrive on the scene. Android can now power everything from your watch to your Auto and every Android smartphone or tablet in between. You can immediately access all of your songs, photos apps and even your recent searches across all of your Android devices. Google is using what they call, Material Design – with more fluid and purposeful motions with more intuitive interactions with more color. Lollipop includes battery saving features that can add up to 90 minutes, as well as having easy access to manage your device. Many benefits work behind the scenes to give you a better user experience, but it is also visually exciting as well.
