Huawei released a couple of really compelling devices last year, which certainly reflected in their financial results for 2014. This China-based company managed to increase their profits significantly, and devices like the Huawei Ascend P7, Ascend Mate 7 and Honor 6 Plus definitely helped out. Huawei not only manufactured good hardware last year, but they also improved their software offering, their Emotion UI Android skin. This UI is now a lot flatter and quite frankly more enjoyable to use. The company has also released their first Android Wear-powered smartwatch at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) recently, and surprised many people with this sleek wearable offering, you can read more about it here if you’d like.
That being said, the Ascend Mate 7 phablet was one of the best-designed smartphones of last year. The Mate 7 was announced back in September, and it’s logical to assume that the company intends to launch its successor in Q4 2015. That might not be the case though, at least not according to the latest rumor. The rumor says that Huawei might postpone the launch of Mate 8, and focus its efforts on the P8 handset. The rumor also says that Huawei Mate 8 might not even be available for purchase this year (though the company might announce it), which seems odd. There’s no way of confirming this, but the rumor itself seems fishy. The Mate 7 was a really successful device for the company and Huawei will hardly wait so long to launch its successor, but we’ll see.
The company will announce the Huawei P8 next month in London. Latest teaser that Huawei shared actually teased great battery life of their upcoming flagship. We’ve seen a lot of leaks and rumors when it comes to this device, and according to those, the Huawei P8 will feature a 5.2-inch 1080p (1920 x 1080) display along with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. The company’s proprietary Kirin 930 SoC octa-core processor is expected to power on this device, and a 13-megapixel was also mentioned in recent leaks, along with a dual-LED flash and optical image stabilization (OIS). 8-megapixel camera will quite probably be located on the front, and the device is expected to ship with Android 5.0 Lollipop, though we’re still not sure, of course. We haven’t heard much about the Mate 8 though, not many rumors or leaks came our way, but they’ll start arriving soon probably.
Huawei will use premium build materials in both devices here, even though they will probably differentiate as far as the design goes quite significantly. The P8 will launch next month, and the Mate 8 is expected to launch in the fourth quarter this year.
