Rumor: Qualcomm Snapdragon 815 Is Reportedly Confirmed By Qualcomm As Not Real

It has been an interesting few months for Qualcomm and their Snapdragon range of processors. There is no doubt that the Snapdragon processors are currently the most popular processors on the market, with manufacturers lining up to make sure their device contains one of their processors. However, Qualcomm have seemed to have ran into a brick wall when it comes to their latest processor, the Snapdragon 810. This is largely due to the processor being riddled with speculation that it overheats, which in turn has fuelled reports that manufacturers are now skeptical about including the chipset and instead are considering alternative options.

Well, swiftly moving on from the Snapdragon 810, Qualcomm is currently expected (and highly reported) to be working on two new chipsets, which are both expected to be unveiled at some point later this year. The first will be the successor to the 810, in the form of the Snapdragon 820. The other reported processor is the Snapdragon 815. The latter of these two, the Snapdragon 815 has been quite widely reported in the last couple of months with recent reports showing comparisons between the 815 and the other Snapdragon processors. In fact, the latest news on the 815 came through only yesterday, when a report emerged of apparently leaked details suggesting the processor will come with four Cortex A72 cores and four Cortex A53 cores.

Well, the latest on the 815 is that it is now being reported the processor does not actually exist. Fudzilla (source link below) is stating that they have received confirmation from Qualcomm that there is no Snapdragon 815 processor. Neither, already in production nor being planned. The confirmation is reported to be coming from Jon Carvill, Senior Director of Public Relations for Qualcomm, who is reported to have explicitly stated “There are no plans for a Snapdragon 815 processor.” This does seem strange in light of the number of reports that have been emerging in recent weeks and as such, the supposed denial of the processor’s existence must remain firmly in the rumored section of news for now and until there is any further confirmation of the existence (or non-existence) of the Snapdragon 815. Either way though, there does not seem to be any issues with the Snapdragon 820, which certainly is reported to be real and expected towards the end of this year or early part of next year.
