Rundown Of The Differences Between The Samsung Galaxy S6 And The Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge

If you missed the non-stop coverage this morning, MWC has finally arrived. Although, technically the show does not start until tomorrow, a number of press conferences were held today and two in particular are attracting all the headlines. HTC’s and Samsung’s. In terms of the latter, Samsung held their press conference a short while ago and finally brought an end to all the speculation, by unveiling their latest flagship device, the Samsung Galaxy S6. Not to mention, they also unveiled their other flagship variant, the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge. In case you were wondering what the differences between the two are, then here is a quick recap.

In all main respects (namely specs) the devices are the same and offer much the same features, performance and so on. However, there is subtle differences between the design of the two. Firstly, the obvious difference. The S6 Edge comes with an edge display. However, unlike the Samsung Galaxy Note Edge, this one is more of a subtle increase with both edges of the device containing a slight wrapping around them. There is also a subtle difference in the dimensions of the two devices. The Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge is a little shorter, narrower and fatter than the Galaxy S6. While the Galaxy S6 measures 143.4 x 70.5 x 6.8mm, the S6 Edge measures 142.1 x 70.1 x 7.0mm. Likewise, this means there is a difference between the weight of the two devices, although again, a subtle one. The Galaxy S6 Edge is the lighter of the two coming in at 132g while the Galaxy S6 weighs in at 138g.

These more physical differences do result in the next notable difference between the two, which is that there is a slight difference in battery capacity. Due to the inclusion of the flexible display on the S6 Edge, this one comes in with a slightly larger 2,600mAh battery. In contrast, the standard S6 offers a 2,550mAh battery. If coloring is your thing, then there is also a slight difference in this respect too. While both devices are mostly offered in the same colors, the S6 has exclusive rights to a Blue Topaz color while the S6 Edge has its own rights to a Green Emerald version. Lastly, and probably most importantly from the consumer perceive, these two devices will not be priced the same. Like the Galaxy Note 4/Note Edge release, there will be a premium price included on the S6 Edge compared to the Galaxy S6. Until pricing is fully released by the various carriers, the difference remains unconfirmed. However, the difference in price is likely to be at least a $100 more for the Galaxy S6 Edge. So which device do you prefer? The Samsung Galaxy S6 or the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge? Let us know
