Yes, the Galaxy S5 Mini. Not the Galaxy S6 Mini (which hasn’t been announced yet, although we’re sure it will be soon). The Galaxy S5 Mini is almost a year old itself, and it’s just now getting a launch date onto AT&T. Kinda late, isn’t it? Either way, AT&T will be offering it on March 20th. The Galaxy S5 Mini features a 4.5-inch 720p Super AMOLED display, along with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 powering it. There’s also 16GB of storage, 8MP camera on the back with a 2MP camera on the front. With a 2100mAh battery keeping you going all day long. Of course it also has the nation’s strongest LTE signal. AT&T is pricing it at $428.99 off contract, if you’re looking for a contract it’ll be $99. And with AT&T Next, it’ll be $14.30 over 30 months and $21.48 over 20 months.
Although if you’re looking for a smaller Samsung smartphone on AT&T, and don’t want the Galaxy S6, then the Galaxy Alpha might be a better choice. It’s currently going for $319.99 from AT&T, about $100 less than the Galaxy S5 Mini. It also has a Snapdragon 801 chipset inside along with 2GB of RAM. So definitely better specs, with a slightly larger display at 4.7-inches.
Am I the only one that finds it odd that AT&T likes to launch Samsung’s “mini” smartphones after the next flagship is announced? Last year, after the Galaxy S5 was announced, AT&T decided to put the Galaxy S4 Mini on sale. And it appears they are doing the exact same thing this time around as well. While the Galaxy S5 Mini isn’t a terrible phone, I do think it would have sold better if it had launched on AT&T last summer, shortly after Samsung had made it official. Am I the only one that thinks that way?
Either way, if you’re looking for a smaller smartphone, and want a Samsung smartphone, there’s a couple of good choices on AT&T, with one heading there later this week.
