Samsung Galaxy S6 & Galaxy S6 Edge Feature Sony's IMX240 Camera Sensor

The Mobile World Congress brought forth Samsung’s next flagship device, the Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S6 Edge, and the camera sensor has been confirmed. Sony’s IMX240 camera sensor is a feature of both the Galaxy S6 as well as the Galaxy S6 Edge, but there’s more to it than that.

Following the debut of the Mobile World Congress we saw some camera samples from Samsung’s next flagship device, and they look amazing. It’s pretty safe to say that this camera is one of the best that Samsung has ever released, and it’s mostly thanks to Sony’s IMX240 camera sensor. We’ve been predicting that Samsung might go with this chipset for a while now, and it’s great to see these rumors confirmed. The lens comes equipped with f/1.9 aperture lens. This means that the Samsung Galaxy S6 is exceptional at taking pictures in low-light conditions. Starting the camera takes 0.7 seconds because the hardware itself remains in standby even when you aren’t using it. In order to access it, all you have to do is double tap your home button and the app will pop right up.

The quality of the Samsung Galaxy S6 is pretty impressive. Sony’s camera sensor is turning out to be really good, and it makes a good combination with the Galaxy S6’s 16MP primary shooter and OIS. We’re curious to see what sort of camera the Sony Xperia Z4 will feature, given the company’s manufacturer status, but in the meantime we can work with what we have. The camera on the Galaxy S6 is very fast, very high quality and fairly innovative. It’s going to be exciting to see comparison videos pop out once the other flagship devices get released. Samsung has some serious competition to deal with this year, especially in terms of camera quality, so we’ll see if it’s good enough.

What do you think of the Galaxy S6’s camera quality based on what you’ve seen so far? Let us know by leaving a comment, and tell us what you expect from the other flagship devices that are set to be released, like the iPhone 7 for instance, which is going to be Samsung’s main competition for the Galaxy S6.
