Yesterday during Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona, one of the main attractions was Samsung. Investors, techno-geeks and consumers wanted to see what Samsung’s new Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge would bring to the party. Would these new devices be enough to bring Samsung back to the dominance it once enjoyed and would they help erase financial losses suffered during 2014. Samsung went on stage, and for the next 45 minutes discussed the innovations of the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge – often comparing them to Apple’s iPhone 6. Samsung also talked about Samsung Pay and its ease of use and wide acceptance. The other big topic was directed at Business Enterprises concerning Mobile Security, KNOX and Mobile Device Management (MDM). Most of the highlights on the video include the main attraction – the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge. Samsung boosts that they are the most advanced smartphones in the world, with more capabilities and they even look “cool.” They have the best display in the business with Samsung’s Super AMOLED QHD display pushing out 577 pixels-per-inch (PPI). Samsung also describes their Exynos processor as the fastest in the industry and the first smartphone to use a 64-bit architecture built using 14nm technology – it is 20-percent faster, yet 35-percent more efficient. They are also using DDR4 RAM for an 80-percent boost in speed. Their new Flash Storage is faster with absolutely no lag or hesitation.
This is also the first time that Samsung has sealed off the battery from users – they said that they felt confident enough to make the change because of their new battery technology. Samsung claims that their new battery charges faster than any other battery in the industry. With only a 10-minute charge, you can now get 4 hours of usage and charging from 0-to-full, takes half the time of the iPhone 6. Wireless charging is also built-in and it supports the two most common standards – WDC and PMA – so no matter where you find a charging pad, your Galaxy S6 or Galaxy S6 Edge can take advantage of it and keep your device charged.
The camera is another big area as Samsung recognizes that most people use their smartphone to capture all of their photos. The new camera excels in all lighting situations – both lenses use a F1.9 aperture to allow 60-percent more light to enter, the 5MP front-facing camera (FFC) uses a 43-percent larger pixel and with Real-Time HDR, low light shots, without a flash, come out beautifully. The main camera can be set to point-and-shot for those not interest in more advanced settings – however, there is a Professional Mode that allows shutterbugs to adjust individual settings. The options are displayed easier (no scrolling) and word descriptions are there along with the symbols. The camera is always in Standby Mode – ready to snap a picture in less than a second and features autofocus and auto-tracking to keep a moving subject in focus.
