Sony Xperia "Cosmos" Leaks out, Thanks to @Upleaks

We’ve been seeing some Xperia Z4 leaks popping up lately, but today we have a new leak coming out. This is from Upleaks, who has been pretty popular lately. According to the images he has, this is the Xperia Cosmos. Now it’s a bit tough to see the entire device, but as far as we can tell, the design language looks quite different from the current Sony devices on the market. For one, the bezels are a whole lot smaller. Especially the bottom bezel. Up top we have what looks like a fairly large front-facing camera, along with a flash. Similar to what HTC had on the Desire EYE.

There’s also a picture of the device in the Bluetooth screen. Which shows us the name of the device, seeing as it says “Xperia Cosmos is visible…”. We can clearly see that it’s running Android 5.x Lollipop. Now we don’t know whether it’s 5.0 or 5.1, but that’s not a big deal at this point. We know it’s Lollipop as the skin looks almost identical to what we saw on the Xperia Z4 Tablet and Xperia M4 Aqua back at MWC earlier this month in Barcelona.

According to an earlier tweet by Upleaks, the Xperia Cosmos is going to be powered by a MediaTek processor. Which isn’t a first for Sony, as some of their mid-range and low-end stuff are powered by MediaTek’s chips. This could just be a codename for the Xperia Z4, it could also be an entirely different smartphone. Considering the past flagships have had star-based codenames like Leo and Sirius, it wouldn’t surprise us. And that would make more sense than having another entirely different smartphone. Especially with this new design language.

Sony has recently stated that they were getting away from 6-month release cycles, which I think is evident by the fact that the Xperia Z4 was not announced in Barcelona earlier this month. However, Sony did state that the Xperia Z4 will be announced before September, which is when IFA takes place in Berlin. My money is on Computex in Taiwan. That is where the company announced the Xperia Z Ultra a few years ago.
