Sony's Take on Lollipop Captured on Xperia Z3

Mobile World Congress might be winding down somewhat, but that doesn’t mean there still isn’t plenty going on down on the show floor. We recently got a hands-on look at Nokia’s excellent N1 Android tablet and while we’re still roaming the halls, there’s some interesting videos appearing from the Sony booth. Italian site Spazio iTech have managed to spend some quality time with the Xperia Z3 running Sony’s take on Lollipop on the showfloor, and it sure looks like the wait is going to be worth it.

While the likes of Motorola, HTC and Samsung have already rolled out their updates to Android 5.0 Lollipop, Sony users have been stuck waiting a little longer we first expected. As an Xperia Z2 owner myself, I know what it’s like to wait for an update. Yesterday, we heard from Sony that were still working on the update and it was currently in testing. Now that Xperia Z3 devices have been spotted on the show floor, it would seem like Sony is getting pretty close to having something to roll out to Xperia Z3 users all over the world.

The video, embedded at the end of this article, quickly runs through the overall look and feel of Lollipop on Sony’s Xperia Z3, and just as we were initially thinking, it looks like Sony has kept Google’s vision for Lollipop very much alive. Sony have done just as they did with KitKat and previous versions of Android it would seem; leave it mostly alone. For a lot of users, this is great news, as Sony devices are some of the few out there that offer thoughtful extras, without the need to change how Android works in practice. Take a look at the video below, and hopefully we’ll see the update roll out before the end of the month.
