Spec Shootout: Samsung Galaxy S6 vs the Apple iPhone 6

When a new Samsung Galaxy S model comes out, it is almost mandatory that it be compared to the newest Apple iPhone – in this case, this would be the Galaxy S6 and the iPhone 6.  The iPhone 6 launched five months ago… they would never share the stage with Samsung… but it is still selling strong, so the big question is will sales of the new Galaxy S6 be strong and will the device entice current Apple owners to jump over to Android.  Let’s go over some of the key specifications of the Galaxy S6 and the iPhone 6 and see which device deserves our hard earned money.

The first key area is in the design and build quality – the new Galaxy S6 is a total rebuild from last year with a full metal frame and Gorilla Glass 4 for the backside of the device… it is a beautiful device and possesses the look and feel of a premium device.  The iPhone 6 is a full metal design and all of the accolades given to the Galaxy S6 can equally be applied to the iPhone…we have to rule this area a tie because either device is a work of art.

The next key area is the display – the Galaxy S6 uses a 5.1-inch Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels and 576 pixels-per-inch (PPI).  The iPhone 6 uses a 4.7-inch LCD display with a resolution of 1334 x 750 pixels and only 326 PPI…here the win goes to Samsung.

Another key area is the processor and memory – the Galaxy S6 uses Samsung’s 64-bit Exynos 7 series octa-core processor with one quad clocked at 1.5GHz, and the other quad clocked at 2.1GHz and this is running with 3GB of RAM.  The iPhone 6 uses Apple’s designed 64-bit A8 chip, but provides little else in specs, but we know it is packing 1GB of RAM… again, the win goes to the Galaxy S6.

Cameras are always a hot topic – the Galaxy S6 uses a 16MP sensor, autofocus, LED Flash and OIS.  The iPhone 6 uses a 8MP sensor with auto focus, dual-LED flash, but no OIS.  The front-facing camera (FFC) on the Galaxy S6 is a large 5MP and the iPhone only uses a 1.2MP – these are used for social selfies and video chatting.  There is no denying the iPhone does take a great picture; however, the Galaxy S6 wins in this area as well.

Miscellaneous items – the battery in the Galaxy S6 is 2550mAH and the iPhone 6 is 1810mAh.  The Galaxy S6 uses the standard microUSB port for charging or data transfer whereas the iPhone uses a proprietary ‘Lightning’ port.  The Galaxy S6 has an IR Blaster built in, both devices use a fingerprint sensor and both devices are very similar in size and weight.

Specifications put the Samsung Galaxy S6 on top of the Apple iPhone 6 and in the two areas the iPhone has ruled – design and camera – are now equalled and possibly surpassed by the new Galaxy S6.  Please take a look at the two devices and hit us up on our Google+ Page and let us know which smartphone you pick as the winner of this comparison… as always, we would love to hear from you.
