Sponsored App Review: Fit Brains Trainer

Fit Brains Trainer is an app from Rosetta Stone, designed to keep your brain sharp and exercise your gray matter. It features 14 different brain games across 360 different puzzles. You steadily build up your Fit Brains Index over time, and you can easily see what you’re good at, and what you’re not so good at. More than just your average brain training game that throws some spellings and reaction tests your way, Fit Brains Trainer has all sorts of different sections to test your brain out. Great for all ages, and those of all intelligence, Fit Brains Trainer is developed by the same company that teaches millions of people each year how to speak a different language. Let’s see if Fit Brains Trainer can do the same for cognitive ability that Rosetta Stone has for language learning.

To get started with Fit Brains Trainer, all you need to do is to download it from the Play Store for free. Then, you need to make an account or sign in if you’ve ever used Fit Brains Trainer online.

When you first start with Fit Brains, you’ll be introduced to their scientifically devised tests and what they mean for you.

In Fit Brains Trainer, you’ll see your Fit Brains Index, when you first start, this will obviously be at zero, but over time this will increase and you’ll start to get a picture of what you’re good at, and what you need to work on.

In order to start building your Index, you need to take your first test. Before each little game begins, you’re given the chance to study what’s required of you, and they’re all put together with very readable objects and the answers are easy to touch as well.

You’re given a minute for each task, and you’ll need to be quick in order to answer a good handful of these questions. The more you answer, the more data Fit Brains has to work with and the more you’ll increase your Index.

At the end of each of these little tests, you’re given a look at how you did, presented to you simple and easy-to-follow data.

There are a number of different brain games that really exercise everything about your brain. Sure, there are math questions, but rather than test how much you listened in algebra class, they focus on how your brain works. In a sense, you could say it cuts through semantics. An interesting test to me was one where you had to choose whether two words were synonyms or antonyms, that is are they similar, or opposite?

To my surprise, I wasn’t quite as good at this as I thought I’d be, which was an interesting insight in to how my brain works. My math skills really aren’t that good, compared to my knowledge of English and languages. However, I found myself doing much better in those sort of tasks than I thought I’d do.

After a few tasks, you’ll start to get a look and how well you’re doing, this is just after a time with the game in my case.

The more tasks you complete over time, the more of a picture you’ll get of how you’re doing.

Once I got past having to take screenshots for the review, I spent a little extra time and used this every morning for a few days, and I have to say I did feel a little more alert. Not to the point where I had a massively better morning work wise, but you know those small little mistakes you make during your first couple of hours at work? I found myself preventing these from happening. Over time, I’m sure that I’ll have a much higher Fit Brains Index score and I can always keep on sharpening my brain. Fit Brains Trainer is an app that I’d expect to come from Rosetta Stone, it’s put together with a high level of fit and finish and the whole thing is designed to empower people, and sharpen their brains. The statistics are all put together nicely, and they’re easy to study and see what they mean. If there’s an app I’m going to use regularly to keep my brain sharp, it’s Fit Brains Trainer. So often I come across simple math tests, or spelling tests, and these aren’t really a test of your cognitive ability, but more a look at how good your math skills are. Here, in Fit Brains Trainer, the tests are more advanced than that, and you don’t need to have a huge vocabulary or have excellent math skills to get good scores here.

Ratings

  • Speed (4/5) – Fit Brains Trainer runs nice and smooth, and I didn’t have an issue with anything.
  • Theme (4/5) – Everything is easy to read, easy to understand and it’s a good-looking game overall.
  • Features (5/5) – Fit Brains Trainer is full of tried and tested tasks that exercise your brain no matter how good at maths or English you are. It goes beyond the surface questions and tests your brain without making you think too hard. This helps to give an accurate picture of how your brain works, rather than how good at algebra you are, for instance.
  • Overall (4/5) – A solid, and comprehensive brain training application that gives your brain a solid workout without just asking you questions, Fit Brains Trainer is something you should be using on a daily basis, and over time it will help boost confidence and keep your brain sharp.

Pros

  • Tasks are based around medical research, rather than just rudimentary questions.
  • Statistics are all put together in a way that’s easy to understand and that actually mean something to those taking part.
  • A great app to be used over time, Fit Brains Trainer will help you keep sharp and boost your confidence, as well as providing some health benefits as well.
  • No need to spend hours at a time burning yourself out with this, it’s bite-sized and will help work on your abilities over time.

Cons

  • Better use of tablet displays would be nice to see.
  • Interactive tutorial would be more helpful for those not used to this sort of thing.

While this sort of thing isn’t the most exciting of games out there, Fit Brains Trainer is much more than just a simple game. Instead, it’s a way of keeping your brain sharp and keeping your confidence up. The tests are entertaining and they’re not too difficult, they test how your brain works, rather than how good a mathematician you are. This is something that everyone can try and there’s no reason they shouldn’t. At first, there’s not much to it, but over time, Fit Brains Trainer can really give you an insight into how your brain works and how you can keep it sharp.
