none* is an Android puzzle game that, well, nobody really knows what it is. Basically, the game gives you a question and a keyboard to answer it with. That’s it. These questions could be about a simple equation, a word association, an opposite word teaser or something else entirely. Each time you answer correctly, you advance a level in the game of none*, each time you forfeit you will return to the game on the question you couldn’t answer. The questions in none* are random, and there’s no pattern them, making it even harder to figure out how to anticipate the next question or what to think of. It could be math, word association, or something else entirely.
To get started with none*, you just need to download the game from the Play Store. Once you have, launch the game and you’ll be given your first question.
As you can see, the first question I got was a simple equation to get started. Then, thing shifted away from Math altogether into something more subjective:
Then, there are questions that revolve around word association, like this Star Wars related question (which I got wrong the first time round).
When you can no longer think of the right answer, you can essentially give up by hitting none* as your answer, this ends your game and you’ll be able to share your progress with your friends. Currently, I’m stuck on level 7 of none*.
The more I show of you of none*, the easier it’ll become for you, so the best way to enjoy the game is to just go ahead and download it for yourself.
none* is a very strange game, there’s no getting around that, but that’s mostly its appeal. After all, who wants to play a game they’ve already played countless times before in different disguises? There are basically no rules here, you can answer whatever you like, as many times as you like and there’s no punishment for doing so. The only thing that matters is getting the question right. Of course, that’s far easier said than done considering each question is different from the one that came before it, and there are no tips to help you out. If you’re looking for a game that really gets you thinking, and isn’t rooted in one school of thought, be it math or whatever, then none* is a good game to give a go.
Ratings
- Speed (4/5) – Everything here runs nice and quickly, but the keyboard could be more responsive.
- Features (4/5) – While it doesn’t look like none* has a lot to offer, it’s more about how simple and challenging the game is.
- Theme (4/5) – The ominous black and white color scheme make a great backdrop for the random and challenging questions the game throws at you.
- Overall (4/5) – While it won’t be for everyone, none* is a lot off fun and will certainly be a welcome challenge for those looking for something fresh and different.
Pros
- Easy to play with no complicated controls or anything to get used to.
- Free to download and play, and there are no in-app purchases required.
- Progress is remembered the next time you open up and play the game.
- Excellent challenge with no telling what your next question could be.
Cons
- Ads can be distracting and contrast with the overall look and feel of the game.
- While hints might ruin the game for some, others will find them a big help.
none* is definitely not a game that will appeal to everyone, but that’s part of its charm. There’s little in none* that appears to make sense either, as each question is different from the last one and there’s no pattern to these questions, either. Overall, none* is a game that challenges you to use your brain and answer tough, seemingly random questions that definitely aren’t related. If you fancy a true puzzle game, then this will drive you mad.
