Xiaomi has released an interesting puzzle teaser a couple of days ago which was accompanied by a date, March 12. This Chinese smartphone manufacturer wanted to tease an upcoming device launch in India, though they wanted to remain coy regarding what is the announcement about. Anyhow, once solved, this puzzle revealed quite a few keywords: Snapdragon, Expandable, Matte, Wide-angle, Keplar, NVIDIA, Tegra, Movies, Quick Charge, LTE, HD, Dual SIM, Lighter OS, Android, More, Books, Cortex and New. These words actually suggest multiple device launches in India, they point to a range of devices and possibilities, but we were convinced that Xiaomi plans to launch their Redmi 2 mid-ranger. It seems like that was a good guess.
Xiaomi has confirmed that they’ll launch the Redmi 2 handset in India tomorrow, March 12. The Redmi 2 features a 4.7-inch 720p (1280 x 720) IPS display (manufactured by Sharp) and comes in two variants. The cheaper variant comes with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage, while the second model features 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage. Both of these versions are available in China, and it is still unknown if Xiaomi intends to launch both variants in India, or only one. Both variants have the same specs, aside from RAM and internal storage, of course. The Redmi 2 is powered by Qualcomm’s 64-bit Snapdragon quad-core processor clocked at 1.2GHz which ships with an Adreno 306 GPU for graphics rendering. On the back of this handset, you’ll find an 8-megapixel camera (OmniVision sensor) and an LED flash next to it. 2-megapixel camera is located on the front side of this device for your selfies, video calls and what not. The device ships with Android 4.4 KitKat with Xiaomi’s MIUI 6 on top of it and a 2,200mAh battery is a part of this package as well. This is a dual-SIM, dual-4G handset which measures 134 — 67.2 — 9.4mm and weighs 133 grams.
Xiaomi might also launch the Mi Pad tablet alongside the Redmi 2 tomorrow, at least according to the puzzle teaser.
