Xiaomi unexpectedly announced a bunch of new devices back in January. The company not only announced Redmi 1S’ successor, the Redmi 2, but also announced the Mi Note and Mi Note Pro phablets, the company’s new flagships. This Chinese smartphone OEM has also unveiled a couple of new smart gadgets thus far this year, including the GoPro competitor, Yi Action Camera. That being said, let’s focus on the Mi Note handset, shall we.
Some interesting images surfaced on Chinese social network Weibo recently, showing us the Mi Note’s dynamic contract adjustment feature. Xiaomi did mention this feature back in January when they launched the device, but this is the first time we see it in action. This feature is officially called the ‘pixel-level dynamic contrast adjustment’, and it officially increases the contrast of the image, which helps with certain type of images / video, especially the one taken in darker environments. Keep in mind that this feature is not that new actually, Samsung Galaxy S5 had a similar feature for a while now. Well, the phone’s flashlight is used to simulate a bright outdoors where the sun is shining at the handset’s ambient light sensor, which is rather interesting.
As far as this handset’s specs go, the Mi Note features a 1080p (1920 x 1080) display along with 3GB of RAM and 16 or 64GB of non-expandable internal storage. The Mi Note is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 801 quad-core processor which comes with an Adreno 330 GPU for graphics processing. 13-megapixel OIS camera is located on the back of this handset, and a 4-megapixel camera (2um pixel size) can be found on the front side of this device. Dual LED, dual tone flash is located on the back as well, and the Mi Note offers 4G LTE connectivity. This handset measures 155.1 x 77.6 x 7mm and weighs 161 grams. As a side note, Mi Note Pro will be available soon as well, that handset looks identical to the Mi Note, but is powered by the Snapdragon 810 and comes with 4GB of RAM.
