Xiaomi Redmi 2 Gets Announced In India, Complete With A 4.7" 720p Display, 64-Bit SoC And 1GB Of RAM

Xiaomi has teased the announcement of new devices for India quite recently, when the company released a rather interesting puzzle teaser. This Chinese company has confirmed yesterday that they will re-announce the Redmi 2 in India, the company’s mid-ranger which was originally showcased back in January. Well, the device has been officially announced during the event Xiaomi held in India. As you probably already know, there are two version of the Redmi 2 available in China, the 1GB of RAM version which ships with 8GB of internal storage, and the 2GB of RAM variant which comes with 16GB of internal storage. Both of these variants offers microSD card expansion though, and it seems like Xiaomi decided to announce only the 1GB version in India (the 2GB version will arrive later on). Anyhow, let’s check out its specifications, shall we.

The Redmi 2 features a 4.7-inch 720p (1280 x 720) IPS display (manufactured by Sharp) with AGC Dragontrail Glass protection, along with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage (expandable via microSD card up to 32GB). The Redmi 2 is powered by Qualcomm’s 64-bit Snapdragon 410 quad-core processor clocked at 1.2GHz which ships with an Adreno 306 GPU for graphics processing. On the back of this handset, you’ll find an 8-megapixel camera (OmniVision sensor) and an LED flash next to it, while there’s a 2-megapixel camera located on the front side of this device. The device ships with Android 4.4 KitKat with Xiaomi’s MIUI 6 on top of it and a 2,200mAh battery is a part of this package as well. This is a dual-SIM, dual-4G handset which measures 134 — 67.2 — 9.4mm and weighs 133 grams. As far as 4G LTE supports goes, this thing supports TD-LTE 2300MHz (Band 40) and FDD-LTE 1800MHz (Band 3) for India. Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS and USB OTG support are also a part of the package here.

This handset comes in White, Grey, Pink, Yellow and Green color options, and is priced at Rs. 6,999 ($112) in India. The Redmi 2 will be available starting March 24th through flash sale on one of India’s biggest retailers, Flipkart.
