ZTE didn’t really announce many devices at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona, but the company did bring a bunch of their previously-released devices to showcase. ZTE did, however, announce their Grand S3 handset, a device which features EyePrint ID retina scanner. We covered the announcement of that device, as and played around with some of the company’s older devices, which resulted in a bunch of ZTE hands-ons which you can find at the site.
Something really interesting happened at MWC though, a mysterious ZTE-branded devices posed for the camera at the show, the alleged ZTE Nubia Z9. This device resembles the one we’ve seen leak recently in a promo video. ZTE Nubia Z9 is expected to launch in a couple of months, and this will be the company’s new flagship smartphone. It seems like the device photographed at the MWC wasn’t the Nubia Z9, but the Nubia Z9 Max. It also seems like ZTE has quietly showed off this device at the show to select crowd, though they haven’t announced it yet.
The ZTE Nubia Z9 Max is packed with photo editing software, and features a 16-megapixel camera on the back. Long-exposure features is available here along with a ton of other camera-related software features. The phone will sport a unibody design and a glass back with metal edges, which will surely give it a premium feel. Android 5.0 Lollipop will come pre-installed with Nubia’s UI on top, and a 5.5-inch display will be located on the front. Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 810 64-bit octa-core processor is going to power on this handset with an Adreno 430 GPU.
ZTE wasn’t exactly forthcoming when it comes to this handset’s full spec sheet considering this wasn’t the official announcement of the device. The company will announce the ZTE Nubia Z9 Max at the end of March, and the handset will launch in China first and will then be pushed to other markets. This thing is expected to cost about $450, though this is not confirmed by any stretch of the imagination just yet.
