We haven’t heard much from Meizu lately, the company has been rather quiet and we haven’t even seen that many leaks / rumors either. This China-based smartphone OEM has launched a number of great devices last year which actually managed to sell really well. The Meizu MX4 and MX4 Pro were announced as flagship devices at the end of 2014, and the company is expected to announce their successors this year. The Meizu MX5 will be announced in third or fourth quarter this year and some info leaked in China regarding this device.
We’ve seen Meizu MX5 leaks before and several of them actually showed us a device sporting a home button. This seemed somewhat odd because the MX4 launched without a physical home button, while the MX4 Pro did sport one. Well, if this leak is true, the MX5 will ship with a physical home button. If you take a look at the gallery below the article you’ll notice two leaked images showing off the alleged MX5 handset. These images actually go hand-in-hand with the device Meizu’s Chairman and CEO, Huang Zhang, posted on his Weibo (Chinese social network) account last month (third image in the gallery). Meizu’s chairman did not specify which device this is, but many people started guessing that it’s the Meizu MX5.
As you can see, the home button on this device is actually more rounded than the one on the Meizu MX4 Pro. The device does resemble both the Meizu MX4 and MX4 Pro as far as general design goes. This handset will also sport premium build it seems, at least its frame will be made out of metal. For all we know this could be a leaked Meizu MX5 Pro, and not the MX5, but who knows. We’ll just have to wait and see what Meizu has in store for us this year, they haven’t exactly announced a lot of handsets thus far, but we might see one launched soon. The company will hardly release the MX5 or the MX5 Pro before the second half of 2015, quite probably late Q3 or Q4, but we’ll see. Either way, stay tuned, we’ll report back as soon as we get more info.
