It’s April 10th. The day we’ve been waiting for since March 1st, when Samsung took the wraps off of the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge back in Barcelona at Mobile World Congress. Today marks general availability for both devices at all four US carriers as well as other carriers around the world. AT&T has had pre-orders up for the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge for quite some time, and even started shipping out the pre-orders earlier this week. But starting today, you can walk into your nearest store and walk out with a brand new Galaxy S6 or Galaxy S6 Edge.
The Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge both come with a 5.1-inch 2560×1440 resolution display, octa-core Exynos 7420 processor that is a 64-bit SoC there. There’s also 3GB of RAM, 32GB of storage and a 16MP camera, which we’ve heard takes some pretty amazing pictures for a smartphone. There’s no microSD card slot this time around, so we are gifted with the 64GB and 128GB models of the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge in the US. That’s not typically the case. There’s also no removable battery. So you’re stuck with the 2550mAh battery that’s inside. The Galaxy S6 Edge has a slightly larger battery at 2600mAh, and both sides of the screen are curved a bit. Which is why it’s named the Edge.
AT&T is offering the Galaxy S6 in black, white and gold. As well as all three storage models. The 32GB is starting at $199 on contract. Over on AT&T Next 12 it’s 20 months of $34.25. AT&T Next 18, it’s 24 months of $28.55, and on AT&T Next 24 it’s 30 payments of $22.84. While the AT&T Galaxy S6 Edge is $299 on contract, AT&T Next 12 is $40.75, AT&T Next 18 is $33.96, and AT&T Next 24 is $27.17. AT&T is also offering $50 off a Gear Circle – which was announced with the Gear S last fall – when you purchase a Galaxy S6 or Galaxy S6 Edge now through May 11th. However, you must purchase the smartphone on AT&T Next. So they are pushing their installment plans over standard contracts. Which makes sense as it pushes people to upgrade sooner as well as putting more cash in AT&T’s pocket.
