When it comes to continually growing industries, gaming is HUGE when contrast against other technology fields, and the aspect of social gaming is something that has been one of the bigger parts of the gaming industry as a whole since it gives players a way to connect with friends and family, especially on mobile as social gaming on mobile devices somewhat emulates what you might get from ecosystems on other platforms like Steam for PC, Xbox Live or PSN. Google has their own version of a social gaming platform for Android called Google Play Games, and it’s grown quite robust for all that it offers. Blackberry wants to get in on this action too by bringing a more socially connected gaming experience to BBM users.
As BBM launched for Android last year millions of users on Android can stay in touch and connect with others in their BBM contacts list no matter if they use an Android device or an actual Blackberry. Today Blackberry has announced their own social gaming platform called ‘BBM Connect Games’ and has kicked things off with three titles that users can connect up with their friends through the platform to play socially. Besides being able to interact with BBM contacts through BBM Connect Games, users can also send in-game currency to their friends, and even share achievements. At the moment Blackberrry only has three games available for the platform, and all of them are free and have in-app purchases enabled.
The three games listed are Altermyth Daruma Fever which sounds like a match-3 puzzle title of sorts as you have to match up colors and acquire high scores, Altermyth DeceaZed which seems to be a first person shooter title where you take on the role of a sniper who must keep survivors of the Zombie onslaught alive, and lastly a game called BinaryWorks Wayang Jump, which sounds like an endless runner type where you have to avoid obstacles, and gathering more points allows you to jump higher and higher which also appears to be part of the goal. Blackberry doesn’t mention how often they’ll be adding in more games to BBM Connect Games, but they do suggest to follow the BBM Connect Games Channel, which isn’t a bad idea if you’re a BBM user and are planning on trying out Blackberry’s new social gaming platform.
