Last week, you could not have avoiding the news of an update to Chrome. That is because the update was considered to be a rather big one. Not to mention that it was hitting just about every platform imaginable. The update was bringing devices up to Chrome 42 and was reported to be landing on all stable platforms including desktop, the Chrome for Android app, as well as those running Chrome OS. The big points of the update to note was the inclusion of website push notifications and also the inclusion of Google Now cards on Chrome OS, while Chrome for Android saw the inclusion of the ability to more easily pin frequently visited websites to the homescreen.
Well, in spite of Chrome 42 just landing on most devices, this was only heading out to the stable channels and versions. That is because all the beta channels like the Chrome Beta for Android app and the dev channel on Chromebooks saw the update landing a few weeks back. As such, if you are running a Chromebook (or any Chrome OS device) then it looks like your next update is already beginning to land. It should also not be too much of a surprise that this one will bring your system up to Chrome 43, specifically version 43.0.2357.32
As to be expected and consistent with all updates, there will be a number of obligatory bug fixes and performance improvements. However, Google has also now sent out their blog announcement (source link below) detailing what else can be expected from the latest update. The highlights of the update include new autofill settings for credit cards in Google Wallet. In addition, the keyboards on Chrome OS are also seeing an update. The physical keyboard is improving its auto-correction ability while a new look Material Design UI is being added to the virtual keyboard. For those, who have thought about picking up the recently announced Chromebook Pixel, then it seems that device is also seeing an update land, which enables “OK Google” functionality from anywhere. The update is already in progress and therefore you may have already seen the update land already. However, if you have not, then don’t worry as it will be landing soon. That is, as long as you are on the beta channel.
