Google Details Security Keys Will Be More Effectively Managed At Scale

There are many things which are high on Google’s agenda at the moment. However, security seems to be one of those which is right at the top. And with good reason. Google and Apple have battled for some time now over who has the most secure operating system. Although, they seem to prefer to argue who has the weaker operating system point. Either way, security has become big business and with that, Google has been making its moves to make their services and offerings more secure in recent times.

A prime example of the type of ways in which Google are looking to offer enhanced security came back in October of last year when the company unveiled their new Security Key. For those that missed the original report, Security Key is a physical USB stick which acts as a secondary means of identification. Although, two tier identification has been on their books for some time, the new physical key removes the need for text messages and emails and can simply provide the identification needed by plugging the key into the terminal, once you have entered your Google login details.

Since the initial unveiling, the rollout of the product has been somewhat slow going and especially within the work sphere. However, Google today sent out a blog post on their Google for Work blog detailing that in the coming weeks, IT admin departments will be able to use the Security Key’s on a much larger scale. In short the announcement details that Google Drive for Work admins will be able to monitor and manage multiple Keys at the same time. This will include the ability to monitor when they are used and also revoke their access if they are lost or stolen. Not to mention, the new control methods will be accessible by Admin departments without the need for additional software installed.
