HTC has already announced three high-end, premium flagships this year. The company has announced the One M9 handset during the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona last month, and earlier this month they showcased the One M9+ and One E9+ handsets in China. HTC isn’t done with releasing high-end offerings for this year though, the company still has to release the third iteration of their Butterfly series of smartphones. The HTC Butterfly 2 was announced back in August last year and the company is expected to launch the third iteration of the device in the second half of this year. That being said, some rumors have been saying that the phone will launch in Asia only, that it will sport a QuadHD display and the phone will also reportedly be available in Red, White and Blue color options.
We finally have some specification info regarding this device. The HTC Butterfly 3 (J Butterfly HTV31) has popped up on CompuBench and revealed its specs. This handset will feature a 5.1-inch QuadHD (2560 x 1440) display along with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 810 64-bit octa-core processor will power on this handset along with an Adreno 430 GPU for graphics. The 20.7-megapixel camera will be located on the back of this device and flanked by an LED flash, while you’ll be able to find a 13-megapixel snapper up front. Android 5.0.2 Lollipop will come pre-installed on HTC’s upcoming handset with HTC’s Sense UI on top of it.
There you have it folks, this is yet another high-end device that HTC plans to release by the end of this year. As previously mentioned, this handset will arrive in the second half of this year, quite probably late Q3. Previous leaks said that the handset won’t be available outside of Asia, and that’s probably true. This device will almost certainly launch in Japan only initially and will make its way to a number of countries in Asia soon after that. This handset is a mix between the One M9 and One E9+ in terms of specifications, and will be the third high-end Asia exclusive by HTC this year.
