Earlier this week, we first reported that LG was sending out invites for an upcoming event that the South Korean company would be holding this month for their 2015 flagship device, the LG G4. That event is scheduled for later this month on April 28th and will take place in various locations around the globe. While LG mentioned in their email that the event would be for their next flagship, they never specified any details about the upcoming smartphone that is to succeed last year’s LG G3. There have however, been plenty of rumors surrounding what the LG G4 would like, what kinds of materials LG would use for the body makeup, and what kinds of hardware users are to expect.
This includes the display of the device which has been rumored to be anywhere between 5-inches and 5.5-inches, and most likely coming with a Quad HD resolution which was equipped on LG’s previous flagship device. Today, LG has announced that they’re in production of a new 5.5-inch display panel carrying a 1440 x 2560 resolution (Quad HD) with 538 pixels per inch. In the announcement LG never mentions this is the screen that will be used for the upcoming LG G4, but it’s a pretty safe bet this will be the screen that comes with the device as it’s fairly high-end and there is no other more logical option.
According to LG, the display will have better color accuracy which is due to the 120% color gamut. If this is true, LG is really aiming to give customers a stellar screen experience as the colors on the LG G3 display were already some of the best. The details of the display that was just announced are similar to what was leaked in the recent benchmark details that were allegedly for the LG G4 which came out earlier this week, which further suggests that LG’s announcement today was somewhat of a more subtle hint as to the screen for the LG G4. LG also mentions that this new display incorporates perfect touch sensitivity, as well as better power consumption and thinness, which suggests an all around improvement over last year’s model.
