LG has just announced their highly anticipated G4 flagship after months of rumors, leaks and official teasers. The LG G4 is a significantly different offering than its predecessor, the company took a somewhat different approach this time around. The LG G4, unlike the G3, is slightly curved, not as much as the LG G Flex or G Flex 2, but it’s noticeable. This Korean tech giant has even decided to put genuine leather on the back of their new flagship (the non-leather plastic and ceramic back variant will be available as well) which definitely makes it both look and feel different. Anyhow, we’ve already covered the initial announcement of this device and are here to take an in-depth look at its specifications.
The LG G4 features a 5.5-inch QuadHD (2560 x 1440) Quantum LCD display which accounts to a pixel density of 534 PPI. This panel is expected to be significantly brighter than the G3 panel also more accurate as far as color reproduction goes, not to mention it is protected by Corning’s Gorilla Glass 4. According to the company, this display is 25% brighter, has 50% higher contrast and has 20% wider color reproduction compared to G4’s predecessor, the G3. The screen-to-body ratio of the G4 is 74.3%. Moving on, the G4 sports 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage (expandable via microSD card up to 128GB). The G4 is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 808 64-bit hexa-core processor which ships with an Adreno 418 GPU for graphics.
On the back of the G4 you’ll find a 16-megapixel OIS camera (f/1.8 aperture) flanked by a dual-LED, dual tone flash, while the 8-megapixel snapper is located on the front side of this device. The f/1.8 aperture on the phone’s main camera actually allows it to receive 80% more light compared to the 13-megapixel snapper which was used in LG’s flagship last year, the LG G3. LG’s Laser Auto Focus is also back, so you can expect really fast autofocus as well. Below the camera you’ll notice the power / lock button and volume rockers, something LG has become quite recognizable for. This 16-megapixel shooter is also capable of recording videos at 2160p@30fps and 1080p@60fps.
The 3,000mAh removable battery is also a part of this package and is equipped with fast charging technology. According the company, you’ll be able to charge your phone up to 60% in about 30 minutes. You’ll also be able to take advantage of wireless charging here, because the LG G4 is Qi-enabled, all you need is Qi wireless charging. As far as connectivity goes, the LG G4 is equipped with WI-FI 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 4.0, NFC, IR Blaster and more. This phone also supports a wide array of LTE bands and category 6 4G LTE speeds which will let you up to 300Mbps downloads and 50Mbps uploads.
The LG G4 will ship with Android 5.1 Lollipop with the previously announced LG’s UX 4.0 installed on top of Google’s operating system. The UX 4.0 actually comes with a number of old and new software features by LG. Knock Code and Knock On are back, and LG has added a number of new options, from general customization options all the way to camera features / modes. LG once again sports a 1W spear which was included in the G3, but this time around it has enhanced performance, so you should get a solid sound out of this thing as well. The LG G4 measures 149.1 x 75.3 x 8.9mm, and will be available in Metallic Black, Silk White and Shine Gold color options.
