LG is a one of the biggest smartphone manufacturers in the world, and as you all know, this is a huge corporation which actually manufactures all sorts of products. Much like Samsung, LG is manufacturing TVs, microwaves, smartphones, smartwatches, tablets, smartphone components, air conditioner, TVs… and a whole lot more different products. This company has many affiliates, and LG Innotek is one of them. This section of the company is actually manufacturing components and materials for LG and the company’s partners. They manufacture all sorts of components for mobile phones, displays, cameras, automotive parts, etc.
That being said, we’ve talked about LG Innotek the other day, when a report came stating that the company will supply parts to the wider wireless charging industry. We’re not here to talk about that though, but a new announcement coming from the company. LG Innotek has unveiled the company’s new 16-megapixel camera module with an aperture of f/1.8, which is actually the LG Innotek’s widest aperture camera developed for a smartphone. The company has also confirmed that they’ve began mass production already and that this camera will be unveiled to the public along with the LG G4 later this month.
This camera module receives 80% more light compared to the LG G3’s shooter, according to LG Innotek. The camera on the company’s current flagship is really, really good and have been praised a lot ever since the device launched, which makes this announcement even more interesting. Considering the fact this sensor will let more light into the shot, that means you’ll get brighter images in low light scenarios and also less blur when capturing moving objects.
The 16-megapixel module is not the only thing LG Innotek has announced though, they also unveiled the 8-megapixel front-facing camera module. This thing actually comes with a ultra-thin IR filter which should keep infrared light from entering the camera lens, that should actually provide more natural-looking images in the end. The company says that this filter is only 0.11mm thin, which makes it approximately half the thick as other IR filters.
“At LG Innotek, we are constantly working to ensure that the cameras we develop allow users to capture and preserve the moments that are most special to them. We are extremely excited to see our technology in LG’s next flagship smartphone because we believe that the power, precision and operability of our camera module will clearly make an impression on consumers,” said Ung-beom Lee, CEO of LG Innotek.
