If you have read or been watching the popular “Games of Thrones” series, you’ll understand that characters Arya Stark and Theon Greyjoy have endured a difficult time. Author George R. R. Martin loves to torment his characters with both Arya and Theon having suffered in the story. Here and now isn’t the place to dwell on these characters’ difficulties but instead, the story I’m covering today is that British carrier Three (3) are celebrating the imminent television release of the fifth series this weekend by offering a free 2014 flagship prepay device to customers with the name of “Arya” or “Theon.” Three are currently the smallest of the UK carriers but this will change when the Three / O2 deal concludes. It’s an unusual deal to offer a free device, but there are some important considerations: customers must provide photographic identification and must be eighteen or older. The deal starts tomorrow, Saturday 11 April, and runs until Monday, 13.
For the smartphones that 3UK is giving away, there’s a choice of the LG G3 or the Sony Xperia Z3 Compact: two great devices all the better for being free of charge compared with their usual prices of around £300! Both of these devices are based around a 32-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor and offer a solid Android device experience, but are quite different in character as the G3 is a large device compared with the Z3 Compact’s relatively small size. Three’s spokesperson, Jolene Sicklemore, explains that “Participants must have a valid ID, be over 18 and state they’ve ‘Played the Game of Phones’ once inside the store to activate the offer.” Unfortunately, there may be an element of travel involved because only a limited number of stores offering the promotion based in London, Manchester, Birmingham, Cardiff and Glasgow: potential customers would need to travel to one of these stores in order to qualify.
If you are desperate to get your hands on one of these devices, one option is to change your name by deed poll, which is free, then spend the rest of the day at a British Passport office to obtain a new passport in your new name, which will cost £128 – assuming you can get an appointment today, which is unlikely. However, don’t change your name to another character from the season as these won’t quality. And don’t change your name to be Joffrey as you’ll probably be invited to leave the store!
