Oppo R7 Actually Has Side Bezels, But Is Able To Hide Them; New Render Surfaced As Well

Bezel-free smartphones have been a frequent topic lately. Smartphone OEMs are trying to trim the bezels on the sides as much as possible as of late, even though most of them still have some bezel, even if it’s minimal. Letv, a Chinese tech company, has released a new line of their flagship device which sports very thin bezels on the sides. Same can be said about Huawei’s new P8 line, but all of these smartphones either have black bars on the sides or some visible bezel. Unlike the two aforementioned devices, Oppo R7 image and video leaks have been showing us a truly bezel-less device for quite some time now, but that info was somewhat deceptive.

A new Oppo R7 video appeared online and revealed a trick which Oppo has pulled in order to make us believe this device has absolutely no bezel on the sides. It seems like the screen is slightly curved on the sides of this device and it basically reflects the light on the sides and makes it look like there’s no bezel there. Check out the video embedded down below to see this effect for yourself, you can check it out at the end of the video itself. This is a very clever move by Oppo and it really does make it look like there’s no bezel on the sides, which makes this device look stunning from the front side. Speaking of which, the Oppo R7 render leaked as well (pictured above the artcle), and it seems like this handset will be made out of metal.

As far as this handset’s specifications and release date go, we really don’t have that much info. Several rumors surfaced saying that the handset will be powered by MediaTek’s MT6795 64-bit octa-core processor and that it will feature a 20.7-megapixel camera on the back, but we don’t know when it might launch though. Q3 or Q4 of this year seems somewhat probable though, we’ll report back as soon as we get some additional info. Oppo R7 is not the only ‘bezel-free’ smartphone that is expected to launch by the end of the year, ZTE’s Nubia Z9 will be unveiled at the beginning of next month (May 6). It will be interesting to see what other OEMs have planned for us this year, we’ll quite probably see some additional ‘bezel-less’ offerings by the end of 2015.
