Android TV has been slow coming, but it is here. Albeit, in a limited fashion. Of course, you can pick up the Google default Android TV system which comes in the form of the Asus manufactured Nexus Player. However, if you are after a different unit, then the choices are beginning to emerge. For instance, if you are in the market for a built-in unit (opposed to the standalone boxes on offer) then it was only recently reported that Sony have finally revealed their price structure for their upcoming Android TV running, TV sets. Not to mention, that in the first week of April, Razer’s Forge TV unit was also reported as finally becoming available for pre-order on Amazon.
Well, it now looks like Razer’s option is increasing in its pre-order availability. This is because their Forge TV unit now seems to be available directly from the Razer website. Of course, like Amazon, this is still only in a pre-order status. However, the latest change does at least mean you can now get your orders in early and directly from Razer, if that is your preference. Like Amazon, you can pick up the bundle, which consists of the main unit and a Serval controller for $149.99. However, if you are just after the unit by itself, then this is available for $99.99
In terms of what’s on offer, Razer’s Forge TV is a standalone unit similar to the Nexus Player. That said, the specs are a little higher on this unit. The Razer Forge TV comes loaded with 2GB RAM, along with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 processor (clocking at 2.5GHz). The CPU is coupled with an Adreno 420 GPU for graphic processing. Internal storage is set at 16GB, while the Forge TV is a gamer’s unit and one of the benefits includes the ability to stream PC games to the TV. In terms of when, if you do pre-order the standalone unit is scheduled to ship on April 29th while the shipping date for the bundle is scheduled for May 5th.
