There are very few smartphone OEMs that are also making their own mobile processors. Much like Samsung, Huawei also belongs in that category. Huawei has made quite a few of their HiSilicon Kirin offerings thus far, and the Kirin 930 64-bit octa-core processor is the cream of the crop for this company at the moment. This processor is going to power on the upcoming Huawei P8 handset which will launch in about two weeks in London.
Huawei has recently said that this SoC is powered by four regular Cortex A53 cores and four enhanced Cortex A53 cores. The company did not, however, say whether the chip is made using the 16nm manufacturing process or not. Rumors have been saying that the 16nm process has been used, though we had no way of confirming that. Well, the Chinese Mobile Phone League Secretary General, Old Yao, said that the Kirin 930 actually uses a 28nm process, and not the 16nm TSMC process. This more or less means that the upcoming HiSilicon Kirn 950 will use the 16nm process, and will basically be a beastly chip. What does this mean? Well, it only means that the chip might not be as powerful as we initially thought, but it’s still powerful enough. We won’t judge anything until we see it in real life action of course. Huawei is expected to use this chip in a range of smartphones this year, and the Huawei P8 will almost certainly be the first one who will be powered by this SoC.
We’ve also seen Huawei’s HiSilicon Kirin 940 and 950 details leak quite recently. Huawei is expected to unveil these SoCs in Q3 and Q4 2015, respectively. We’re looking at two octa-core chip here, and if you’d like to know more, click here. This China-based smartphone manufacturer did a really good job last year, they released a number of compelling devices and have improved on both their hardware and software offerings. An interesting Huawei-branded devices leaked recently and indicated that the company’s devices will have ever thinner bezels this time around. Let’s see what Huawei have up their sleeve for this year.
