It’s here! Samsung Canada has started rolling out Android 5.0.1 Lollipop for the Samsung Galaxy S4. Customers on various carriers have contacted our source and let them know that their Galaxy S4’s are getting the offer to download Android 5.0.1 Lollipop. Along with the new update, you will be privy to Google’s Material Design. The new build number is I337MVLUGOC4 and is available for Bell, TELUS, Virgin Mobile, Koodo and SaskTel customers. We will update this post after we find out about when Lollipop will hit those on Rogers’ network. The Galaxy S5, Galaxy Note 3 and Galaxy Note 4 have already received their taste of Lollipop.
It was all the way back in January when we saw a comparison video between Android 4.4.2 KitKat and Android 5.0 Lollipop on a Samsung Galaxy S4. It is said to be the largest software update ever pushed out to a Samsung device. This update not only replaces KitKat with Lollipop, but also adds a few features and includes Samsung’s new version of TouchWiz UX – it has a ‘lighter touch’ and follows Google’s Material Design features. This includes a more colorful interface, smoother and faster response, and more cards, easier multi-tasking and add-on circles.
Android’s new Lollipop 5.0 is more than just an upgrade for your smartphone – it is designed to work between all of your devices – smartphone, smartwatch, tablet, TV and even your car. You can stop doing your work on any of your devices and pick it up right where you left off on any of your other devices… the songs, photos and even recent searches can instantly be accessed across all of your devices. It helps give the user a unified experience across all platforms and device sizes.
The Material Design brings a fluid and purposeful motion with more tangible interaction – when you touch something, the content should respond to your touch in an intuitive way. You should get the right information at the right moment – for instance, when you go to your inbox, alongside the list of messages you have opened, your smartwatch should be showing up new emails as they arrive. Lollipop allows you to be the ruler of your device – adjust your settings so that only certain notifications or certain people get through, so you can be bothered less. If it is really important, you can respond from your lockscreen.
