Last month, Sony kinda shocked us. By pushing out Android 5.0 Lollipop to a ton of their devices. From the Xperia Z3, Xperia Z3 Compact, Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact, Xperia Z2 and the Xperia Z2 Tablet. However, it was only available in a few countries. Last week, Sony made the Xperia Z3 family of devices getting Lollipop expand. And now they are doing the same for the Xperia Z2.
Sony didn’t specify which countries are getting the update just yet, but to check locally. So we’re assuming that North America isn’t included, especially since updates must go through carriers here. Like the Xperia Z2 Tablet on Verizon and the Xperia Z2 up in Canada. But it’s great to see the update heading out to more Xperia Z2 and Xperia Z2 Tablet users.
Additionally, Sony confirmed that the Xperia Z3 Dual, Xperia Z1, Xperia Z1 Compact, and Xperia Z Ultra will be getting their updates next week. After that should be the Xperia T2 Ultra and Xperia C3. Finally the Xperia Z series will come along after that. Sony said they’ll have more information on the timings soon though. It doesn’t sound like they are too far off though. It appears we might be seeing these all beginning to roll out before the end of April.
As for those of us in the US with a carrier device like the Xperia Z3, Xperia Z3v and Xperia Z2 Tablet, no word yet on when we can expect our update. Where the Xperia Z3v and Xperia Z2 Tablet are on Verizon, we likely won’t see those updates for a bit longer. As Verizon does like to test out the updates first and make sure it won’t damage their network. While T-Mobile still shows that Sony is working on the update for the Xperia Z3.
Great to see Sony finally getting on the updating bandwagon. For quite some time, Sony would take a lot of time to update devices. So it’s definitely great to see them rolling out Lollipop.
