Upcoming Xiaomi Device to Feature USB Type-C Port and Android 5.0

Xiaomi, one of the best-known Chinese OEMs is preparing for an event to be held on April 23 in New Delhi, India. It has been reported that the event is to possibly announce a new device, one with the tagline ‘i is coming’.  But, this device likely isn’t related at all to the news from @upleaks on Twitter this morning.  @upleaks let followers in on a new Xiaomi device to feature some rather interesting specifications.

First and foremost and if the leaked information is correct, the device will come with a USB type-C port for charging and syncing.  LeTV announced the X600, a nearly-bezel-less (on the sides of the display, specifically) smartphone that featured the first use of a USB type-C port a few days ago, as well as a few of its sibling devices.  The USB type-C connector is a big deal because it is reversible.  It is also used in some of the newest laptops like the Chromebook Pixel 2 and Apple’s new Macbook, as well as likely to be used in the future on desktops and higher-end laptops, running any of the OSes. In short, allowing for easy connectivity of the cable, whichever way you try to plug it in. It seems USB type-C will be a good thing to have and the mark of the next level of devices going into this year’s latter half.

The phone will also reportedly feature a MediaTek 6795 (the company’s high-end) 64-bit, octa-core processor, as well as a nice touch of Android 5.0 Lollipop courtesy of Xiaomi. The device is reportedly still in the early stages of development and therefore, is unlikely to be here until the latter part of the year at the earliest, but it might also be part of the Xiaomi Hongmi or Redmi series of devices.  Not to mention that by then the number of devices sporting a Type-C USB will be increasing. The device should also come with a coating of Lollipop, likely in the form of Xiaomi’s MIUI 7. Either way and regardless of what it is, a good powerful processor paired with Lollipop and USB type-C should make for an interesting product.
