It’s a crowded market out there, and already in 2015 we’ve seen major launches from Samsung and HTC, now it’s LG’s turn. The Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge have wowed users all over the world for their fresh and innovative design, while the One M9 from HTC is sticking with a tried and tested design while offering UH OH protection. So, with so much on offer from the big names in mobile, what does LG’s latest flagship, the G4 have that makes it so special? Where does the G4 set itself aside from the rest of crop. Well, as it turns out, the G4 is special for a lot of reasons, and if the Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 Edge or HTC One M9 aren’t doing it for you, there’s a good chance that the G4 will.
First thing’s first, the G4 has major upsides against the Galaxy S6 for retaining a larger, but also removable battery at 3,000 mAh as well as a microSD card slot. Where the HTC One M9 is concerned, the G4 bests it in both screen size and resolution, while also offering a removable battery. Then there’s the Snapdragon 808 on the inside of the G4, which promises to be more efficient, produce less heat and deliver excellent battery life. Already, the G4 offers a larger battery than both of these flagships and also offers a removable battery as well as a microSD card slot.
LG have focused on two key things with the G4; its camera performance, and the overall look and feel of the device. Where the camera is concerned, LG have positioned the G4 as a mobile replacement for entry-level dSLRs. The 16-megapixel camera is not only a larger sensor, but it features improved Optical Image Stabilisation that create for more motion, as well as the new Color Spectrum Sensor. This is a new hardware feature that works with the laser autofocus to further determine the best shooting conditions for your subect. It’s a super-quick camera as well as being infinitely configurable. Camera software on smartphones has gotten a lot better over the years, but there are still stragglers, and the G4 wipes the floor with the competition. You can shoot raw, you can shoot in complete full manual, there are histograms and more floating about the user interface to help you make sure you get the best image possible. Simply put, LG’s attention to detail with the G4’s camera software is fanatical, and if you care about taking photos, rather than just putting your phone around, this sort of stuff will matter to you.
Then there’s the fit and finish of the whole device. The Slim Arc Design of the G4 gives it a slight curve throughout the device and the stitched leather backs are produced with genuine leather, and feel brilliant. There’s a lot more choice here as well, if you don’t want the leather options, then you can opt for the ceramic options; the choice is yours. The whole design process represents a move to something much more elegant and refined, delivering a premium device with both the looks and the specifications we’ve come to expect.
