Ahead of it’s unveiling slated for May 6th, stills from a Japanese TV ad provide a glance of ZTE’s upcoming Nubia Z9 flagship device. The device is said to be of the phablet variety and according to our source will house a number of top tier specs along with a bezel-less display. According to this rumor, the device will sport a 5.X-inch QHD (2560 x 1440) display along with 4GB of RAM. Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 810 64-bit octa-core processor will power on this handset along with an Adreno 430 GPU for graphics.
According to other sources specifications vary. They all seem to have settled on a Snapdragon 810 running the show paired with 3-4 gigabytes of RAM, but instead of QHD the device may stick with Full HD (1920 x 1080) display. Also, a 16 megapixel camera could be situated in place of the 21 megapixel snapper mentioned above, this is actually quite probable considering both the Nubia Z9 Mini and Nubia Z9 Max sport 16-megapixel snappers on the back. As far as this handset’s front-facing camera goes, you can expect an 8-megapixel sensor. You can also expect Nubia Z9 to be made out of metal / sport premium build.
What stands out about the Nubia Z9 is its display. No doubt we are looking at a screen to body ratio similar to Sharp’s Aquos Crystal mid-ranger which sits right at 78%. Judging by the leaked pictures the device looks narrow and uncomfortably tall with thick top and bottom bezels. It wouldn’t be the first device to suffer under these dimensions. The HTC One M8 comes to mind. Hopefully ZTE took this into consideration and made the device easier to handle and more accessible for users with smaller hands. In spite of that a device with little to no bezels is always pleasing regardless of whether it is too tall or too narrow. Incidentally, thick bezels are always the butt of negative feedback from users. So this bodes well for ZTE. At launch the device is said to be up for grabs at the equivalent of $484. With high-end specs in tow, the Nubia Z9 could spell major competition in a highly competitive market.
