ZTE’s upcoming Nubia Z9 flagship is one of the most rumored / leaked devices of 2015, for sure. This handset has been leaking back and forth for months now. ZTE has actually announced two devices from their flagship Nubia Z9 lineup of devices, the Nubia Z9 Mini and Nubia Z9 Max. The company already teased the arrival of the Nubia Z9, and according to that info, the handset will launch on May 6. The company’s General Manager also confirmed that the device is coming soon and that it will sport bezel-less design, which actually goes hand-in-hand with basically everything we’ve seen thus far.
That being said, the aforementioned General Manager at ZTE, Ni Fei, was active yet again on his official Weibo (Chinese social network) account. He released yet another Nubia Z9 teaser, referring to two rather important events in the mobile history. First he referred to the introduction of the Nokia physical QWERTY keyboard in 1990s, and then to the introduction of the first iPhone in 2000s. According to Ni Fei, the third step is the introduction of Nubia Z9, which will obviously sport no bezels on the sides. ZTE actually refers to this unveiling as the ‘third interaction revolution’. The Nubia Z9 will sport a bezel-less display called ‘3D edge touch’. This display will reportedly bring some productivity on the table as well, if you press on the edge of the screen (where the bezel usually lies) you’ll be able to open the camera, make phone calls, activate the shutter… and do many more actions. ZTE might even let users customize these actions and even open APIs for third-party interactions as well.
I’m sure that many of you think the company is exaggerating here a bit, but we’ll see. The handset will launch soon, though we still don’t have any info regarding its specs. We can only assume that the Nubia Z9 will sport similar specifications to the recently announced Nubia Z9 Mini and Nubia Z9 Max devices. The handset will sport a 5.X 1080p or QuadHD display along with 3 or 4GB of RAM. Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 810 64-bit octa-core processor will most likely power on this device, and you can also expect 16 and 8-megapixel cameras to be available on its back and front, respectively. Android 5.0.2 will come pre-installed on the Nubia Z9 with ZTE’s Nubia 2.8 UI on top of it.
