There are plenty of new features on the LG G4, even though LG didn’t really talk about their UX 4.0 at their event on April 28th. One of those new features is Smart Settings. Now the concept of this feature isn’t really new. In fact, Motorola did this back with the original Droid Razr and Droid Razr Maxx, yeah quite a while ago.
Basically with Smart Settings, there are three categories. Home, Away, and Accessory. With Home, you can choose to change the sound profile, turn on Bluetooth or turn on WiFi. When you’re away it’s pretty much the same options. You can choose to change the sound profile, turn on/off Bluetooth and WiFi. The interesting one is with Accessory. Now this is for headphones being plugged in and Bluetooth being connected. With the headphones, you can choose which app opens when you plug them in. It defaults to LG’s Music app, but you can also choose any of the others installed on your device. With Bluetooth, you can choose the app, but you can also choose the Bluetooth device that it connects too.
It’s worth noting that for the home section, you do need to add in your home address. It’s weird that LG couldn’t just work with Google and pull that in from Google Maps or even Google Now. But that’s easy enough to add. However, if you ever reset your LG G4, you’ll need to re-add that address. Not a big deal, but still worth noting.
In order to get to Smart Settings, you’ll need to jump into Settings, tap on the “General” tab and then under “Smart Functions” you’ll see “Smart Settings” along with the Quick Circle case settings and Dual Window.
Automation. That’s the name of the game with Smart Settings from LG on the LG G4. We’ll probably see more from this on LG’s future flagships, but it’s a good idea to have it built in instead of using an app to do automation. As it should – in theory – be able to do more, as it’s baked into the OS. We’ve got plenty more coverage to come on the LG G4 so make sure you stay tuned.
