The Motorola-made Nexus 6 is Google’s current Nexus handset. This 6-inch phablet was launched back in October, alongside the Nexus 9, Nexus Player and the new version of Google’s Android operating system, Android 5.0 Lollipop. That being said, we’ve already seen quite a few rumors regarding the next Nexus handset, the 2015 edition. Huawei and LG were mentioned in a number of rumors in the last couple of months, though Huawei-related rumors were far more frequent than the LG ones. We haven’t had any detail regarding the device, well, until now.
According to Pan Jiutang, a Chinese industry analyst, Huawei will manufacture the next Nexus handset. According to the source, the device will feature Samsung’s 5.7-inch QuadHD AMOLED display and will be powered by the Snapdragon 810 64-bit octa-core processor. The ‘Quick Charge’ capability was also mentioned, and the device will quite probably sport that feature as well. Unfortunately the source did not provide any more spec info, but this is more than enough to get us going. The rumors regarding the Huawei-branded Nexus smartphone are slowly coming in and it seems like this China-based tech giant will indeed be Google’s Nexus partner.
Presuming this info is accurate, the Huawei Nexus handset will be smaller than the Nexus 6, but still a phablet it seems. As far as the rest of its specs go, we can only guess at this point, but the device might sport 4GB of RAM and will quite probably sport a 16 or 20.7-megapixel camera on the back. Premium build quality is also expected, unless Google intends to bring this Nexus handset in the affordable price territory once again. As you probably already know, the Nexus 6 is a premium device with a premium price tag, while the Nexus 4 and Nexus 5 were far more affordable devices.
If Google intends to stick to its release cycle, we won’t be seeing the next Nexus smartphone released until the fourth quarter of the year, so there’s still plenty of time for rumors, leaks and what not. We’ll see, Google I/O is coming up, and Google probably won’t talk about the upcoming Nexus handset there, but there’s always a possibility they’ll change things up, stay tuned.
