Lock screen app shortcuts have been around forever, it seems like. HTC, Samsung and LG have had them in their custom UX for Android for a few years, along with some of the Chinese manufacturers. The LG G4 also has lock screen app shortcuts that are already preset. Although that’s not a big deal as you can customize those and even get rid of them completely. Lock Screen app shortcuts come in handy as they allow you to open straight to that app. For instance, swiping up from the camera will open straight up to the camera. Pretty simple, right?
So how do you customize them? Just jump into Settings > Display > Lock Screen > Shortcuts. From there you can change the five lock screen shortcuts that are there. To change them, just tap on the icon, you’ll be taken into a new pop up that shows all the apps installed on your device, along with “None” at the top. Just tap on the app you want there, and you’re all done. Repeat for each shortcut you want to add. If you want to get rid of them completely, there is a way. It’s not as intuitive as one would think though. Basically tap on the app, then choose none. You’ll need to do that for all five apps to get rid of them entirely. It is possible, but like I said, it’s not that intuitive. When you’re done, simply hit “Save” and you’re all set.
Lock Screen app shortcuts is a great feature for a lot of people. Although some like to have a “clean” lock screen, like myself. So it’s great that LG has a way for you to customize those buttons, as well as just remove them entirely.
