Leading up to Google I/O this week, there is sure to be more rumors about what’s coming with Android in the future. Just earlier today the codenames of seemingly two new Nexus devices to be launched by Huawei and LG showed up. Another rumor surrounding Android this year is the anticipated next version of the software, at this point which is being referred to as Android M. Android M was first seen listed in the Google I/O 2015 schedule in one of the session descriptions about Android for Work when the site went live, although the session description was later taken down after the Android M term was noticed.
Today a rumor has surfaced which suggests Android M will seek to focus on improving the state of RAM in Android, something which isn’t too hard to believe considering the issues people have been having with the software managing RAM following the updates to Android Lollipop. The rumor also suggests that Android M will take a heavy focus to seeing improved battery performance to give devices more longevity on a single charge. In addition to these two details, it’s being said that Google will be pushing out a developer preview of Android M in the same way they pushed out a developer preview of Android L last Summer, which would make this the second year in a row Google is giving developers and any interested end users, a chance to check out the software in an early build prior to its final development and release which is said to be sometime in August, although this too is part of the rumor.
There’s still a couple of days left between now and Google I/O’s keynote speech which is where these details are expected to be discussed, but the annual developer conference is coming up fast and it’s a pretty good bet that Google will be talking about Android M during the event. If that is the case, there’s a good chance they’d talk about the focus for this release as well as the existence of the developer preview software build for people to test out.
