Back on April 21st, Samsung announced the Galaxy Tab A mid-range tablets would be coming to the U.S. with a release date of May 1st across multiple sales channels and that it would be available from a number of different retail outlets. Today is May 1st, and right on schedule the Galaxy Tab A in all its variants is officially available from various places like Amazon, Office Depot and others. Since this is a mid-range tablet users shouldn’t be expecting to have the most powerful specs and top tier hardware, but with the lack of top-tier hardware there is also a lack of a top-tier price, which means these will be quite affordable compared to some other offerings in Samsung’s lineup.
The Samsung Galaxy Tab A comes in two different sizes, one with an 8-inch display and one with a 9.7-inch display for those who need or want something a little bigger. Each size also comes in one storage size model which is 16GB of internal storage, however, they do each have expandable storage through the microSD card slot up to 128GB and each tablet size comes in three different color variations so customers at least have some variety there.
You’ll be able to grab the Galaxy Tab A in either size in a White, Titanium, or Smoky Blue color scheme, whichever suits your personal tastes the most. As far as prices go, the 8-inch model will cost consumers a cool $229.99 while the 9.7-inch model will be a tad bit more at $299.99. When it comes to specs and hardware, the Galaxy Tab A is running on Android 5.0 Lollipop right out of the box so the software is up to date, and besides the screen sizes, both tablets will feature a Qualcomm APQ 8016 quad-core processor clocked at 1.2GHz with 1.5GB of RAM. Both tablets also have an estimated battery life of up to 11 hours, although they do both have different sized batteries, the 8-inch model coming with a 4,200mAh battery and the 9.7-inch model coming with a 6,000mAh battery to account for the larger size display. Both also carry the same screen resolution of 1024 x 768, and are equipped with a 5MP rear-facing camera and a 2MP front-facing camera.
