Featured Review: Encase 5.5 Inch Rotating Universal Phone Case

If you are planning on picking up a new device anytime soon, then you will also need to consider whether or not to pick up a new case for your device. In recent times, there seems to be two distinct trends occurring with newer smartphones. The first is that they are getting incrementally bigger. In fact, a number of the major flagship devices are now roughly around the 5.5-inch size marker. The other notable trend is that devices are becoming more and more premium in their presentation, build and quality. These two factors, combine and result in devices becoming even more in need of a suitable form of protection.

Well, if you are planning on picking up a device around the 5.5-inch size marker and also looking for a case which is not too expensive, then you might want to check out the Encase Rotating 5.5 Inch Leather-Style Universal Phone Case. As the name suggests, there are a couple of obvious points to note with this case. Firstly, it is a 5.5-inch case and does snugly fit devices of this size neatly. When testing, a OnePlus One was used and there were no immediate issues noted with the fitting or holding of the device. Secondly, this is a leather style case. As such, the case does elicit an overall faux leather look and style and is a great solution for those wanting a leather look but not pay a premium price for a leather case.

The Encase option is not an all enclosing case and instead this is a wallet based case which leaves the top, bottom and right-hand side of the device largely exposed. This is beneficial in making sure access points are easily accessible without having to remove from the case. On the downside, this also does mean those particular aspects are not as well protected. One interesting aspect of the case is that this case is a rotatable case. The 5.5-inch device is held in place by an adhesive gel pad which attaches to the back of the device. Once in place and firmly attached, the gel pad is able to be rotated offering different viewing angles of the device while still attached to the case. Again, there were no major issues with the case in this respect, the fitting or fixing of the device or its rotation. Obviously, as this is a gel pad, there is a finite number of times you can attach the device to the gel padding before the padding starts to lose its adhesiveness.

The wallet also does contain two credit card slots which make it easy to include a couple of credit cards or your driving licence when you want to travel light for the day. In terms of protection, this case is slightly more form over function and will only offer so much protection for your device. The front of the case is slightly reinforced with additional padding, compared to the rear of the case. The locking mechanism used to keep the case in the closed position is a magnetic lock and was consistently fine when testing. For those looking for a decent case at a reasonable price then the Encase Rotating case is a good option for the money. If you are based in the UK, then the case is available from Mobile Fun and priced at £12.99. U.S. customers can also pick the case up for $16.99 from the U.S. Mobile Fun site.
